Multi-Screen Setups

Each BrightSign hardware device has a single HDMI output. In a basic
setup, it can connect directly to a single screen via an HDMI cable.
However, with the use of additional hardware, including splitters,
extenders, or matrixes, you can connect to as many screens as your
cabling infrastructure allows for.
What is Cabling Infrastructure?
As with any building, there are a myriad of cables running within walls and through ceilings. When we talk about cabling infrastructure, we are referring to one or more types of cabling, their distance, their connection points, and their ultimate function.
When dealing with a multi-screen digital signage setup, a video signal needs to be transferred from a source device to every screen intended for the setup. There are several variables that need to be considered and there are also multiple ways in which a setup can be achieved. Generally, all involve cables running between the site of the source device and each screen.

Recommended Multi-Screen Setup
Our recommended approach for a setup involving 3 or more screens with a cable distance of 10ft+ includes the following:
Part 1: Cat6 Ethernet from server closet to each TV screen
Pros | Cons |
CAT cabling is cost-effective, reliable, long-lasting, maneuverable, and multi-purposeable. | Unshielded Ethernet cabling can be susceptible to interference from other cables, electrical equipment, and wireless signals. |
Long distances can be covered without fear of signal loss.
Most AV/IT technicians and electricians are familiar with this type of cabling, thus specialized expertise is generally not needed to install.
Network cabling has become a standard in new commercial construction projects.
Part 2: HDMI over Ethernet distribution system
Pros | Cons |
Turns the HDMI video signal into a data signal that can be transferred across CAT5e/6 cabling with the use of one transmitter plus a receiver behind each TV screen. | Installation can be tight for setups with limited clearance behind TV screens. |
Can leverage a building's existing network switch or use its own dedicated switch.
Consumer grade options have become very reliable and cost-effective. |
