Do you already have a TV screen?

✓ Yes — TV already in place+ No — Need to purchase a TV
Skip to the DSID device placement section. As long as the TV has an available HDMI input and is mounted or positioned at the display location, you're ready to proceed.See the TV selection guidance below before purchasing. Any modern consumer-grade TV is sufficient for a typical waiting room environment.

Selecting a Screen

For a standard in-office waiting room, a consumer-grade TV from a major retailer like Best Buy is entirely adequate. You do not need commercial-grade display hardware for this application.

Recommended brands

Any current model from LG, Samsung, or Sony will work well. These brands offer reliable performance, good picture quality, and wide availability. All current models are 4K by default, which is perfectly suited for DSID content.

Choosing the right size

Screen size should match the space. Use the following as a general guide based on average viewing distance:

Viewing DistanceRecommended Size
6 - 8 feet43" - 50"
8 - 12 feet55" - 65"
12+ feet65" or larger
Not sure what size fits your space? Send us a photo of your waiting room and we can advise before you purchase.

Wall Mount

A wall mount will be needed if the TV is not being placed on a stand or existing fixture. A standard tilting mount from Amazon or B&H Photo Video is sufficient. Look for a universal tilting mount compatible with your TV's size — a well-reviewed option in the $25–$45 range is all you need.
Important: If you plan to recess the TV into the wall, read the device placement section below before finalizing your installation plan. A recessed TV changes where the DSID device needs to be located.

DSID Device Placement

The DSID device is compact and designed to mount discreetly behind your screen. It connects to the TV via HDMI and requires access to power and an ethernet connection.

Standard placement: behind the TV

In most installations, the DSID device mounts directly behind the TV. It is small enough to fit behind virtually any flat panel display, regardless of model. This keeps the installation clean and self-contained.

Recessed TV: alternate placement

If your TV is recessed into the wall, there will not be sufficient clearance behind the screen. In this case, place the DSID device in one of the following locations instead:

  • A cabinet or credenza positioned below or adjacent to the TV.
  • On the opposite side of the wall the TV is mounted on, if accessible.

If your situation requires running the DSID device from a server closet over a longer cable run, that falls outside the scope of this guide. See our Complex Installation guide for that scenario.

Internet Access

The DSID device requires an internet connection to sync content, receive updates, and communicate with your LoopOS account.

Wired ethernet (Strongly recommended)
A wired ethernet connection is the preferred method. It provides the most stable and reliable connection for your display. You will need an ethernet wall jack (ethernet drop) accessible at or near the TV location.

If an ethernet drop does not currently exist at the TV location, most IT professionals can run one. This work typically involves access to your network infrastructure and is generally beyond the scope of DSID's on-site installation services.

WiFi (Last resort)

WiFi is supported but treated as a secondary option due to potential pairing complexity and connection stability concerns in busy office environments. If wired ethernet is not possible, contact us before proceeding — WiFi support requires a separate adapter that must be installed and configured prior to shipping your device.

Installation

The DSID device ships pre-configured and arrives ready to plug in. The installation itself is straightforward — many front desk staff members have successfully completed it without any technical assistance.
  1. Mount the TV and wall mount (if not already in place).
  2. Connect the DSID device to a power outlet.
  3. Connect the DSID device to the ethernet wall jack using an ethernet cable.
  4. Connect the DSID device to the TV using the included 6 ft HDMI cable.
  5. Power on the TV and select the correct HDMI input.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to pair the device to your LoopOS account.
Once your device is paired to LoopOS, your content will begin syncing automatically. Your onboarding session will cover how to manage your display, build loops, and schedule content.
